I typically ride one to three times a week, and this was a Saturday morning ride with my main cycling buddy. We planned a 50 mile route, but about 15 miles in, I had a spill while drafting behind him at around 22 mph. The road had a dangerous, unrolled edge about two inches high, and with passing cars, I lost control. I slid 30 feet into the opposing lane, narrowly missing traffic. Thankfully, I wasn’t seriously hurt, though my tire blew out, and it took about an hour to regroup and make repairs. Despite the crash, we finished the ride strong, averaging over 20 mph!
While my BRECK iD didn’t need to be used this time since I wasn’t riding alone, it gave me peace of mind. If I’d been seriously injured or unconscious, it could have quickly identified me and contacted my emergency contacts. Plus, it likely saved my wrist from road rash during the fall!
Recovery wasn’t too bad - hot tubs, amino acids, and keeping my wounds covered helped me bounce back quickly. I got back on the bike as soon as I could to avoid letting fear set in.
I recommend BRECK iD to anyone who rides. The products are high-quality and dependable. I love the options for my Garmin watch and the Velcro bands. And their customer service is outstanding - it’s everything you could ask for in a product.
